The June edition of Fotofest 2025 has just wrapped up at Marsa Nakari, and what a brilliant week it’s been. Over five days, participants enjoyed a relaxed and flexible underwater photography workshop with a mix of classroom sessions, guided dives, one-to-one advice, and plenty of time to explore and shoot at their own pace.
Each day began with an early dive followed by an informal classroom session covering a wide range of topics suited to all levels and camera setups — from smartphones and compacts to mirrorless and DSLR rigs. The sessions were designed to be adaptable, with extra presentations offered on request and one-on-one sessions tailored to each guest’s goals.
Participants were offered two accompanied dives a day, either on Marsa Nakari’s house reef or at one of several stunning nearby dive sites, including Marsa Tondoba, Shaab Nakari, Habili Nakari, and the iconic Dolphin House. The house reef proved ideal for practicing new techniques — from sunset split shots to super macro and fish portraits — with many guests appreciating the chance to revisit the same spots and improve after receiving feedback. There was still plenty of time for independent diving on the house reef in buddy pairs or small groups (or solo for those certified!).
The final day was a particular highlight, with a trip to Dolphin House where guests had the unforgettable experience of snorkeling with spinner dolphins at the surface, followed by two dives exploring the site’s coral gardens, canyons, and anemone city.
Throughout the week, friendships were made, new dive buddies were found, and everyone — regardless of photographic ability or kit — had the chance to share inspiration and ideas. With technical and creative support from Duxy, and dive site knowledge from RSDS’s marketing manager Sarah, the group found a perfect balance between guided support and independent diving.
If you missed out this time, don’t worry — two more Fotofest workshops are coming up, from 9-13 December 2025 and 16-20 June 2026. The format remains the same: a relaxed combination of classroom sessions, house reef practice, off-shore excursions, and tailored advice — all with no pressure, just lots of opportunities to learn, shoot, and enjoy. Places are limited so be sure to get in early.
For anyone looking to develop their underwater photography in a beautiful, welcoming (and non-competitive) environment among dive buddies with the same goals — these upcoming workshops might be just what you are looking for.
