We are happy to announce that the winner of the RSDS Photo Competition for November 2025 has been chosen. Congratulations to Luisa Weinert with her photo "Showing off".
Luisa wins a free stay at the RSDS village of her choice congratulations again!
From Paul Duxfield, our competition judge:
I’ve gotten used to a tough choice over the last few months selections, however I’m going to keep it short and sweet this month. As I felt that there were only three pics that seemed to stand out to me. Pamela Fischer’s black and white octopus as it was unusual and dramatically edited but I feel it missed out as it felt like the octopus had it’s back to us.
Another nicely edited and simple graphical shot was by Paul Eijkemans picture of a Stone Fish, shot straight down to highlight the symmetry.
But this month and always a crowd pleaser was the lovely dolphin portrait by Luisa Weinert. Dolphins aren't that difficult to find at Red Sea Dive Safari at all three of their locations and they've turned up a lot in recent years. We’ve even had them on my Fotofest in the summer and the winter at Marsa Nakari just in the bay. This example though stands out from the usual dolphin shots in that it’s just the pair of them, usually there's a few and that can make framing and composition a bit messy and random at times. Who’d have thought that you could get fussy about dolphins eh how spoilt are we!
So Luisa has managed to successfully isolate a pair of these smiley creatures at the perfect angle and distance from the camera. Now obviously shots like this do have a bit of luck involved but you also have to keep a cool head in all the excitement to get the framing right which Luisa has done perfectly here. Well done, I hope you've got it framed.
Well done to everyone else, keep up the good work and keep sending those entries in, and maybe you’d like to join our Fotofest next year in June? This workshop is designed for camera users of all experience levels, with any type of underwater camera.
