Understanding Shark Behavior

Understanding Shark Behavior

Red Sea Diving Safari are delighted to host the second Understanding Shark Behavior Workshop from Deco Divers!

Egypt’s Red Sea has always had a varied population of sharks. In recent years, with a noticeable improvement in marine life health, this population has been flourishing again after its decline. More than ever, shark diving is becoming a more popular activity amongst Egyptian and non-Egyptian divers here at the Red Sea.

Yet, these magnificent creatures remain to be one of the most misunderstood animals in our world. Evolving and surviving for millions of years, sharks are still stigmatized by popular culture and are now in danger of extinction. The first step we can take is to better understand these predators and our role to face this threat.

Our Understanding Shark Behavior Workshop aims to explore sharks, what they are, their anatomy, behavior and patterns. We examine their presence in different cultures including popular myths, discuss shark diving, with its different aspects and schools, and how to safely dive and behave around sharks. All the sessions and discussions are intertwined with daily shark dives with the elusive hammerhead and oceanic white tip sharks.

Our second workshop this season will be held at Marsa Shagra, where we will be diving at Elphinstone everyday.

Important Information:

All divers are required to show valid certification, logbook and to sign a medical statement and liability release form prior to the boat’s departure.

If medical clearance is needed (if guest can answer a question with yes) doctor’s clearance must be arranged prior to check-in. Visiting a doctor to get medical clearance might not be possible or will result in delay of departure. If doctors clearance is not provided, guests will not be allowed to join any diving activities.

We strongly recommend all divers to hold a valid travel insurance that covers diving activities; the service provider is not liable for their medical treatments in case of an accident or an incident.

Participation in diving activities can be restricted if the guide has any doubts about divers safety and/or qualifications. It depends on qualification and experience of each guest. The responsible dive guide on board may restrict diving activities in the interest of safety, if the experience level is not suitable for difficult dives.

Diving requirements:

- Liability and medical releases cleared and signed
